Borer Control Wellington, Whanganui and Levin Wide
Whether it’s your home or your business, pests cause damage. Maintaining a pest free environment doesn’t need to be difficult or costly if you take the right measures to ensure your business is pest protected. Many businesses simply react to pest infestations or issues as they happen or become visible and are unaware that these pests have been present and causing damage for some time.
The Pest Man promotes four pest control strategies which are key to keeping your business pest free no matter what industry you are in. Inspect, Clean, Secure, Control
Inspect
When ants start pouring out of the electrical socket in the staff kitchen it probably means they have been on the outside of the building for some time prior to moving inside. So, fixing that ant issue now involves a pest control technician, an electrician, possibly a painter or handy man and grumpy staff who can’t get their coffee fix. An external routine pest inspection by The Pest Man with an ant management treatment as a preventative measure would have been a better and less expensive solution.
Rodents, cockroaches and flies will usually leave signs, but you need to check everywhere from staff kitchen sinks and bins to drains, cracks and crevices.
Your external environment should also be checked regularly. Rodent access points, wasps scouting for suitable nest sites and those tell-tale ant trails will be identified with regular external checks.
Clean
Cleaning and good hygiene will always be the key to pest management. Whether you do it yourself or employ a cleaner, good hygiene practice is everyone’s responsibility. Remind staff not to dispose of food in desk bins. Waste disposal areas should be cleaned regularly. Food should be put away, staff fridges and cupboards cleaned frequently. Cleaning behind and under staff room fridges, dishwashers, ovens and microwaves should happen regularly as well. If you operate commercial kitchens or provide food and hospitality services you will already know the importance of good cleaning practices.
Secure
Deny pests easy access to your business premises. Block every hole, weather seal your doors and windows. Cap drains and secure your external waste management bins to avoid passers-by from dumping their unknown waste in your recycling bins. Communicate any concerns with your business neighbours if they are in proximity as they may not know they have an issue.
Control
Regular inspections and programmed pest services can also ensure the environment your staff work in is kept free from biting pests such as fleas or white tail spiders. The Pest Man currently works with a government agency to keep their staff free from white tail spider bites. A bite to a staff member is painful for them, could mean time off work, causes fear among colleagues and requires Health & Safety incident forms and follow up. A regular and agreed service plan ensures this agency’s 24×7 call centre staff, work in a safe environment while allowing the centre complete control on when services are delivered so they can plan and minimise any business interruptions.
Regulations and Reputation
The Pest Man can not only help you maintain a healthy and safe environment for your staff and customers, but we can also assist with your regulatory requirements especially if your business is in the food and hospitality industries. We can help you avoid unnecessary property and reputation damage. We provide detailed service sheets with every inspection or treatment and often these service reports are required not only for regulatory but also for insurance purposes.
